Overview
This project focuses on building a reliable, fun, and affordable Mazda 121 / Metro. The goal is to improve handling, response, and drivability without ruining daily usability.
I’m keeping it simple: small upgrades that actually make a difference, doing most of the work at home, and learning as I go.
Current Mods
- Intake: Pod filter (mainly for sound + response)
- Ignition timing: Advanced from stock for better throttle feel
- Fuel: Running 98 petrol when pushing it
- Suspension: Replaced shocks
- General: Basic DIY maintenance to keep it reliable
- Exhaust: Custom made twin tip box muffler
Notes: With basic mods like this, the biggest “gain” is usually response, drivability, and how the car feels — not massive horsepower numbers.
Goals
- Keep it reliable as a daily driver
- Improve throttle response and low/mid-range drivability
- Make the handling feel tighter and more confident
- Keep costs low and avoid mods that cause problems
To-Do List
- Full service check: oil, filters, plugs, leads (if needed)
- Make sure the O2 sensor setup is correct and running properly
- Check for vacuum leaks and intake heat soak
- Tyres + alignment (huge difference for handling)
Lessons / What I’ve Learned
- Small changes can make a car feel way faster than the numbers suggest
- Reliability mods and maintenance often improve performance indirectly
- Handling and tyres are often the best “first mod”
- Timing and fueling need to be done carefully to avoid issues
